  • To act as a MOH/HS focal point for developing and strengthening the  national public health system
  • To increase technical capacity to better respond to major causes of diseases, death and disability
  • To Promote  the skills on public health programs such as HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, vaccine-preventable diseases and chronic diseases
  • To develop long-term strategic plan for an evidence-based sustainable system that addresses the major public health challenges
  • To host public health training and be a career home for a cadre of locally educated public health experts (the workforce needed to prevent and control disease outbreaks)
  • To set the main goal of the institute in line with the protection of public health safety through the control and prevention of disease, injury, and disability.
  • To put an especial focus on infectious diseases, foodborne pathogens, environmental and occupational  health
  • To be an early warning center to identify causes, risk factors, and appropriate interventions and long term follow-up for public health threats
